Program
8 premieres under the heading COMMON SENSES shift perspectives and reflect the status quo of our social interactions. Guests from philosophy and science stimulate our thinking with impulses. You can also expect a “kiosk of unfulfilled wishes”, a floating light-space installation, bar, music, DJs and appetizers in the Discourse Kitchen.
Audience members can experience several short monologues and specials in close succession each evening – we recommend day tickets for the best festival experience.
In addition to the festival trailer, you can find Byung-Chul Han’s opening speech as a video as well as selected press reviews of the festival here.

Marianne Hoppe flirted with the KPD of the Weimar Republic. She sat in the cinema with Göring, Goebbels and Hitler and remained the figurehead of state-supporting art after 1945. How does she explain that? And to us? Eleganz aus Reflex explores irritating paths of justification along emotional worlds and German sensitivities.
The AfD is on the rise and more and more people feel comfortable with it. Eleganz aus Reflex takes the Europe-wide strengthening of right-wing nationalist politics as an opportunity to examine a dangerously changeable image of man and German certainties in interaction with continuities of homophobia, anti-Semitism and racism.
The evening will be led by an iconic actress who, for a century, nestled herself and her outlook on life in all political camps and times and in ever-changing social constellations and conventions. Her life from 1909-2002 reflects a century of German history. And the amazing ability not to see oneself as the cause of obvious evil. Based on the historical figure, the opportunism of feelings becomes a highly topical question. Are they the ones that shield one’s own self-image from moral claims?
Eleganz aus Reflex work on a form of spoken theater that is closely related to performance and installation art. In their play developments they deal with historical-political thematic complexes of German-German history and culture of remembrance. The team has developed an original style of play between documentation and narration, which invites the audience into the negotiated situations and thus makes historical constellations or biographical moments thinkable and experienceable as present. Eleganz aus Reflex receives multi-year institutional funding from the Cultural Office of the City of Frankfurt am Main.
